Interview with royWCU
by PamB

WCU has been an avid fan of www.destroyer.net/radio from bonnie ole England for quite awhile now and I had a chance to ask him about himself and see if he has plans to play on the site soon.

Where is your hometown?
Birmingham Ingeerrland

How long have you been living there?
All my life! 25 Groovy years

How long have you been playing records?
err about 2 years in my bedroom to no avail! lool!

Anything strange ever happen to you while spinning?
Yeah I had a supremely hot gal say she wanted to do naughty things to me! (via MSN :( )

Since you started spinning in 2006, what other genres do you spin?
I’m still learning so starting with easy stuff like breaks and house! And I still suck!! lol!

What type of music most influenced your style?
(rock, rnb, hip hop) Prodigy are a massive influence in my musical taste, have every single track they have done. Met with them a few times and they are just off the chain! Used to listen to heavy metal music for a while as I loved the energy and power in it all but it lacked a little something, then I found rob zombie! Man! The rhythmic guitar and bass on his stuff rocks man! Superbeast is a track and a half!

What type of gear do you play on?
Virtual Dj5 and a hercules mk2 dj console

Thoughts on CDJ vs turntables?
I suck so I rock with Mp3's but I have a huge amount of respect for the Real dj's out there rocking with vinyl!

Are you a career DJ or do you have a regular day job?
I work for t-mobile part time in sales, and then on the side I run my own promo business, providing staff and event management. And coming up with projects for clients.

If so, what are some jobs you have had?
I've had Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet loads of jobs cos i hated the offices lool! but I’ll list a few, cabin Crew for a UK airline, hair and fashion Model, various office jobs, expert role within Vodafone unlocking dept, promo work all over the UK, Semi Pro Paintballer all over Europe, Pro Gamer MOHAA.

What is the scene like where you live?
Really good, Birmingham is a great place to be, it has so much diversity both ethnically and musically which is a great thing as everyone brings their own style to the tables. which can be both good and bad lol! England in general is a good place for music; there must be something in the water. Or the fact that the weather sucks so bad we need to cheer ourselves up some other way lool! Although as I type its a sunny day outside! And I’m not even joking! So I’m gonna have to investigate this crazy warm disc in the sky that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

Do you hangout with a lot of DJs?
And are they all into DNB or other genres?
Don’t really hang with a lot of DJ's more sound guys as I did music tech for an A level (higher education qualification before University)

Do you like playing your show on the internet or do you prefer a "live" audience?
I play to myself in my bedroom! And occasionally send a few samples to people who I know will give me an honest opinion! lol

Do you go by any nicknames or other pseudo DJ names?
Yeah my main nickname is Robeenio, it was given to me after playing in my paintball team for a few months. Being as my name is Robin it was a kind of similar name. And the fact that I've been told I’m weird in a good way it suited me! And I like it now! All my mates call me rob but the closer ones call me Robeenio.

What does "WCU" stand for?
WCU stands for Wolf City Union (the name of the paintball team I represent)

Are you a vinyl addict?
Nay I have a hella small room at my old mans so have just enough room to swing a cat so just have a huge hard drive! lol!

Where do you shop for your tracks?
The wonderful World Wide Web!

Do you have any other hobbies besides being a DJ?
Yeah play games online! Back in my day I was in a top 5 European clan, now I hail around the top 200 in Europe individually. But stopped playing that cos I got team fortress 2! And man that’s soooooo much fun! lool!

Has being a DJ influenced you in any other aspects of your life?
Err it would be nice to hail myself as a DJ but I wouldn’t feel right calling myself one. But listening to the tunes is my way of relaxing or just letting go! And love to dance loads to some seriously awesome beats! I don’t drink at all as I’m allergic to alcohol so music is an important thing for me when going out.

Do you have a favorite paintball venue you have played at?
I’ll have to say Madrid as it was my first experience of playing outside of the UK, Uber hot weather, great team spirit, holiday at the same time, and an Aldi (uber cheap supermarket) next door to the hotel, meaning that we were getting all the snacks and drinks from their and chilling in the hotel.

21) Any tidbit of information you want your listeners to know about you…. ? errrrmmm I have an IQ of 146, was in Mensa at 12, and I Love IRN BRU!!!!! mmmmm
